Many people choose the start of a new year as a time to reflect on the past year and set new goals for the year ahead - making resolutions to try and do things a little differently.
Here are a few things to keep in mind to be successful in sticking with your resolutions:
Keep your goals achievable. If you rarely exercise, try making a commitment to add more exercise into your week than you did last month. Once you have completed this goal, raise the bar. Keep this goal in place until you achieve it and then revisit it later to make any necessary adjustments. Always remember that keeping active is a long-term goal and you will get there at your own pace
Tell your friends and family about your goals so that they can encourage you to be successful. Telling people what you want to achieve will make you more accountable. It will also give you a sense of pride and accomplishment when you meet your goals and your friends and family can celebrate your achievements with you.
Consider writing down your goals and keeping them somewhere you can see them. Review your list on a regular basis and edit it. Sure, it is important to eat healthy and to exercise but there are other things you can be doing as well to feel your best. Something as simple as treating yourself to a relaxing bath every night!
Reward yourself for your achievements. If weight loss is one of your goals reward yourself with a new herbal tea, a new pair of gloves, a new book when you hit your targets. Try walking to the store, instead of driving to the store!
