The warmer weather has us craving all of the juicy fruits! Fruit is a perfect snack or dessert after your healthy, ready-to-eat Honey Bee Meal. Ripe honeydew melon, actually, a type ofberry as they grow oncucurbitaceous vines, is a delicious choice.
Like most melons, honeydew melon is an excellent source of vitamin C as well as a good source of vitamin B thiamine, as well asother B vitamins and the mineral potassium. Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant and valuable for the proper production of collagen, a major structural protein that is vital for repairing and maintaining your skin.
Honeydew fruit and seeds also contain compounds with strong antioxidant capacity, including beta-carotene (pro-vitamin A), phytoene, quercetin and caffeic acid. Honeydew melon contains two potent antioxidants: These carotenoid compounds are well known for supporting eye health and preventing the development of age-related vision loss.
Honeydew melon is low in calories compared to many other high potassium fruits, such as bananas, with only 36 calories per 100g. Honeydew melons are also low in sugar containing only8g of sugar per 100 grams. Honeydew melon is made up of approximately 90% water but also contains electrolytes that may hydrate us more effectively than just water alone.
Some research indicates that eating fruits, such as honeydew melon, regularly may promote healthy blood sugar levels. Though honeydew melon contains carbs that can raise your blood sugar temporarily, it also provides fiber and other nutrients that may help improve blood sugar control over time.
You can enjoy honeydew melon on its own, sliced into a salad, pureed into a popsicle, blended into a smoothie, created into a spicy salsa or even wrapped around cured meats. However you choose to enjoy it, honeydew, like our freshly prepared meals, is a food that you can feel good about eating!
